New trial: NetAdvantage

Filed under: Database trials, Non-Scholars Portal databases — ereport @ 9:42 am

NetAdvantage is a single source for Standard & Poor’s investment research and commentary. It offers ready access to some of S&P’s most popular research products including Industry Surveys, Stock Reports, Mutual Fund Reports, Bond Reports, Corporation Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, and The Outlook.

Access is restricted to the yorku.ca domain. While it is fully functional in Firefox, it looks better (and therefore obviously prefers) Internet Explorer.

Three new database trials

Filed under: Database trials — ereport @ 4:18 pm

We now have, on a trial basis, access to the following databases: Memento, Maternity & Infant Care, and Mass Observation Online. For the first two, see the staff trials page for access.

  • Memento (a francophone equivalent to Books in Print, I think)
  • Maternity and Infant Care (from OVID)
Maternity and Infant Care is an important essential resource for academics and healthcare professionals involved in the care of women and infants. This unique database contains over 120,000 references with abstracts to journal articles from over 550 international English language journals, books, and grey literature relating to the midwifery profession, pregnancy, labor, birth, postnatal care, and neonatal care and the first year of an infant¿s life. Database coverage is from the mid-1980s and approximately 1000 records are added to the database per month. The database also includes correspondence and commentary written in response to an article. Many of the records are assigned to one or more of 475 standard searches on key topics in order to provide fast retrieval, using either a code or a browsable index of topics. In addition there is an online thesaurus, keyword indexing and classification terms.
  • Mass Observation Online
Mass Observation was a pioneering social research organisation whose papers provide insights into the cultural and social history of Britain from 1937 to 1965. The material at the Mass Observation Archive, and now on Mass Observation Online, offers an unparalleled insight into everyday life in the 1930s and 1940s. This publication opens up a host of essay and project possibilities on topics such as abortion, old age, crime, eating habits, shopping, fashion, dance, popular music, sex, sport, reading, ethnic minorities, and the decline of Empire. It will be welcomed by historians, literary scholars, sociologists, anthropologists and political scientists.
