new E-Book Working Group formed

The focus of the group will be on recommending an appropriate e-book platform to host e-book content licensed by OCUL.  The group will NOT be making recommendations on content or e-book purchasing arrangements.  The group will be holding a “kick off” call this week.  Check in periodically on the SPOT Doc WIKI to monitor it’s progress.

ScienceDirect outage on February 24th

ScienceDirect will be unavailable on Saturday, February 24th for approximately 9 hours starting at 06:00 AM EST (11:00 GMT).  During this time we will be carrying through a large-scale rebuilding exercise on some of core aspects of the underlying technologies, which will help ensure that the system continues to provide a high level of reliability in the coming years.

OED is healthy again

China National Knowledge Infrastructure
Promises to put over 17 million full-text articles of all academic subjects contributed by 7,000 journals, nearly 3,000 in social sciences and humanities alone, at the fingertips of users. The archive begins with 1994. All articles appear as they were in the original print edition with the added convenience of full-text and other search capabilities. Users can either retrieve the articles by specific subjects or browse them by journal title, and a list of titles is available upon request”

Trial goes until the end of February.


CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences

New database trial: CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences

CSA’s brand-new Illustrata product provides Web-based access to indexed tables, figures and other objects found in the scholarly research literature. Initial release is focussed on Natural Sciences and will be of interest to those in Agriculture, Environmental Sicne, Earth Studies, Geology, Meteorology, Biology and Medicine. Later releases will target Technology and Social Sciences.

The trial goes until March 7, 2007.
