There have been problems accessing the above two newspaper databases, due to the switchover to the Proquest platform. Until that switchover is complete, and we can provide direct URLs to both newspaper databases, this is what you need to know to access either one:
If you search for ‘Globe and Mail’ using Title Quick Search on the library home page, you’ll get four links; the second one is to the historical database, and has a note attached, reading
“Note: Please click on “select multiple databases” then scroll down and click on CANADA’S HERITAGE FROM 1844 – THE GLOBE AND MAIL.”
This means that, when you click on the link to the Globe and Mail, you’ll be take to a generic ProQuest basic search screen, where you’ll see the aforementioned ‘Select multiple databases’ link. Click on that link and scroll down until you see the link
Canada’s Heritage from 1844 – The Globe and Mail
Click on this link to be taken to the database.
For the Toronto Star, you can use the Title Quick Search box to search for either ‘Pages of the Past’ or ‘Toronto Star’; in either case, click on the ‘Pages of the Past’ link to get to the same way, you get to the same generic ProQuest basic search screen. In this case, scroll down to almost the bottom of the page to reach the link
Toronto Star – Pages of the Past
Clicking on this link will get you to the database.
Once we get proper instructions on how to create the direct links, we’ll replace the existing links and make access much easier.
