Canadian Encyclopedia online is down …
This was reported to ereport yesterday; here’s the latest word from the vendor:
I’m sorry to say that we are experiencing a severe problem with our server. Although it is unusual for the site to be down for this length of time, the issue is apparently more complicated than normal and our technicians have been working around the clock to repair it. They should hopefully have the site up and running again soon; please rest assured that The Canadian Encyclopedia site will still exist.

New trial: Women’s Writings in the British Isles from the Beginning to the Present. (aka The Orlando Project)
Link (access restricted to yorku.ca domain)
Trial ends 2006.09.21
From the introduction:
Orlando: Women’s Writing in the British Isles from the Beginnings to the Present is a new kind of electronic textbase for research and discovery. The first and largest component of a history of women’s writing, it seeks to further the study and understanding of literature, focusing particularly on the part women have played in its development. The Orlando history of women’s writing will eventually comprise, besides the detailed textbase on offer here, three overview volumes on early, Victorian, and modern writing by women. These volumes will be produced both in print and electronically, interlinked with the Orlando textbase contents, allowing readers to move between narrative overview and the detailed, dynamic information in the textbase.

New database: Quicklaw
Quicklaw has been the premier Canadian legal research database since its development in the 1970s. It is the principal research tool for Canadian lawyers and judges and includes the full text of decisions from all Canadian courts and tribunals as well as federal and provincial legislation. It also includes the full text of many Canadian law journals and other law-related publications and commentaries and the main Canadian law journal index – Index to Canadian Legal Literature. Quicklaw users can choose to customise access by registering; however, this step may be skipped for casual use. (i.e., click on Register later and then Accept to get into the database).
